Ultimate Cookies and Cream Cookies

The Best Homemade Cookies and Cream Cookies: Loaded with Oreos & Hershey’s Chocolate

There’s something inherently comforting about a freshly baked cookie. The aroma filling your home, the warmth in your hands, and that first irresistible bite – it’s pure bliss. And when those cookies are packed with the double delight of crushed Oreos and chunks of Hershey’s Cookies ‘n’ Creme chocolate bars, you’ve hit a flavor jackpot that’s hard to beat.

Embracing the Joy of Comfort Baking

Some days just call for baking. Maybe it’s a dreary, rainy weekend, with endless downpours that keep you cozy indoors. Or perhaps it’s a need for a sweet escape, a simple pleasure to brighten an ordinary afternoon. Whatever the reason, these cookies and cream cookies are your perfect companion. They transform simple ingredients into a chewy, decadent treat that truly hits the spot.

When the weather outside is less than inviting, what better way to spend your time than by diving into your baking stash? You never know what culinary treasures you might unearth. A forgotten bag of festive chocolate bars, a large box of Oreos patiently waiting for their moment to shine – these are the makings of magic. For a peek into my own baking adventures and how I gather these fun ingredients, you might enjoy this special post from Cravings of a Lunatic (yes, there are pictures!).

The Star Ingredients: Oreos and Hershey’s Cookies ‘n’ Creme

These aren’t just any cookies; they’re a celebration of classic “cookies and cream” flavor, amplified by two iconic ingredients. Imagine the delightful crunch of coarsely chopped Oreo cookies, perfectly integrated into a soft, chewy cookie base. We’re talking about those large, family-sized boxes of Oreos – the regular ones, not necessarily the Double Stuffed. While Double Stuffed have their place, the classic Oreos with their ideal cookie-to-cream ratio are simply superior for baking. The slightly less cream means they hold their texture beautifully when baked into a dough, providing that unmistakable crunch without making your cookies too moist.

Then, there’s the delightful addition of Hershey’s Cookies ‘n’ Creme chocolate bars. These creamy white chocolate bars, speckled with their own bits of chocolate cookie, bring another layer of texture and a rich, sweet creaminess that melts in your mouth. Leftover from holidays or simply a spontaneous grocery store find, these candy bars are transformed into irresistible pockets of joy within each cookie. We prefer to chop them into generous chunks, ensuring a satisfying bite of candy bar in every single cookie.

Crafting Your Perfect Cookies and Cream Treat

The beauty of this recipe lies in its simplicity and speed. A few quick chops of your candy bars and Oreos are all the prep you need. We love the substantial bits of both the candy bar and the cookies, so don’t be shy with those bigger chunks – they add character and a fantastic textural contrast. Once your mix-ins are ready, it’s just a matter of whipping together your standard cookie ingredients. In hardly any time at all, you’ll be spooning dough onto your baking sheet. And the best part? In just 8-10 minutes, you can be savoring these sweet, warm treats, fresh from the oven, their aroma filling your kitchen with pure happiness.

Tips for Baking Perfect Cookies

Achieving that perfect cookie texture and flavor isn’t difficult, but a few key tips can elevate your results:

  • Softened Butter is Key: Ensure your butter is truly softened (but not melted) for optimal creaming with the sugars. This creates air pockets, leading to a lighter, fluffier cookie.
  • Don’t Overmix: Once you add the flour, mix until just combined. Overmixing develops the gluten, which can lead to tough cookies.
  • Uniform Scooping: Use a cookie scoop (a medium one works great for this recipe) to ensure all your cookies are roughly the same size. This guarantees even baking, so none are raw in the middle while others are burnt on the edges.
  • Watch for Golden Edges: Keep a close eye on your oven. Cookies are often done when the edges are lightly golden, even if the centers still look a little soft. They will continue to set as they cool on the baking sheet.
  • Cooling Time Matters: Allowing the cookies to rest on the hot baking sheet for 5 minutes after baking is crucial. This helps them firm up without breaking, making them easier to transfer to a cooling rack.

Serving and Storage Suggestions

These cookies are truly best enjoyed warm from the oven, perhaps with a large, frosty glass of milk to complement their rich flavor and tender texture. The melting chocolate chunks and the satisfying crunch of the Oreos are simply divine when still slightly warm.

If you manage to have any leftovers, store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3-4 days. For longer storage, you can freeze the baked cookies for up to 2-3 months. Just thaw them at room temperature, or pop them in the microwave for a few seconds for that “freshly baked” experience all over again.
