While I may have created this specific recipe, its very existence is a testament to the power of culinary inspiration. This particular creation was deeply inspired by a fantastic Oreo Cake from the incredibly talented Amanda at I Am Baker. Her innovative approach to baking and decorating has always been a source of wonder for me and countless others in the baking community.

The Art of Imperfection: Inspired by I Am Baker

If you follow my journey on Facebook, you’ll know I’m always eager to share the amazing creations of fellow bloggers. There are times when life gets hectic, and inspiration strikes in unexpected ways. A few years ago, short on time but overflowing with craving, I asked some friends for their favorite treats to share. That’s when Amanda’s magnificent Oreo cake idea truly took root in my mind.

Amanda, with her exceptional talent, often showcases beautifully decorated cakes. However, I truly appreciate when she shares what she affectionately calls a “sloppy cake.” These are cakes where the icing is just perfectly smeared on, not meticulously placed, but still looks so incredibly delicious that it makes you want to lick your screen. I identify with this approach, as I’m not one for elaborate cake decorating. While I could probably make a “pretty” cake if I dedicated the time, I rarely do. My philosophy leans towards cakes that can be decorated in ten minutes or less because, ultimately, it’s the taste that truly matters. The most beautiful sight of all, in my opinion, is an empty cake plate sitting in the sink, a clear sign that every single bite was enjoyed to the fullest.

Amanda’s genius extends far beyond just making the outside of her cakes gorgeous. She is, after all, the visionary creator of the original Rose Cake! More importantly, she’s renowned for the magic she creates *within* the cake itself. She transcends the simple layer cake, crafting incredible surprises that are only revealed when you slice into her masterpieces. This innovative spirit is what truly sets her apart and why her work is so inspiring to bakers worldwide.

I was so incredibly excited for her when she announced her major project. After years of hard work, meticulously putting together photo tutorials, her first book was finally coming to fruition!

Surprise Inside Cakes!

This groundbreaking cookbook, “Surprise Inside Cakes,” is available for pre-order now on Amazon. I couldn’t wait to get my own copy and dive into her amazing techniques. It’s a must-have for any baker looking to add an extra layer of delight to their creations.

The Magic of Shortcuts: Box Mix & Canned Frosting for Instant Gratification

In the meantime, Amanda’s enchanting Oreo cake idea continued to “haunt” me in the best possible way. The universe seemed to conspire when Publix had Oreos on sale, a fantastic buy-one-get-one-free deal. You know I’m not one to pass up such an opportunity, especially when it involves my favorite cookies! That was the sign I needed to finally bring my version of an Oreo cake to life.

For this specific Oreo Cookies and Cream Bundt Cake, I embraced the beauty of convenience. I completely “cheated” – and I say that with zero regrets! I used a quality boxed cake mix and a can of white frosting. Of course, you absolutely can make both from scratch if you prefer, and the results would be equally delicious. However, I was determined to get Oreos into a cake, and I needed to do it fast. The goal was to create an easy Oreo Bundt Cake that delivered maximum flavor with minimal fuss, proving that homemade doesn’t always have to mean hours of elaborate baking.

Using a boxed cake mix and pre-made frosting simplifies the process dramatically, making this cake accessible even for novice bakers or those with limited time. It’s about achieving that fantastic Oreo flavor and moist cake texture without the stress of measuring out multiple ingredients from scratch. This approach makes it a perfect dessert for last-minute gatherings, weeknight treats, or simply satisfying that sudden sweet craving. The key is to enjoy the process and the delicious outcome!

Oreo Cookies and Cream Bundt Cake

Finished Oreo Cookies and Cream Bundt Cake ready to serve, showcasing its delicious appeal.

Ingredients

  • 1 box white cake mix
  • Ingredients called for on box to make cake
  • 3 cups broken Oreo cookies
  • 1 can white frosting
  • 1 cup crushed Oreo cookies

Instructions

  1. Prepare Cake Batter: Follow the directions on your chosen box of white cake mix. Once the batter is ready, gently fold in the 3 cups of broken Oreo cookie pieces. I find that breaking them into quarters works perfectly for an even distribution of cookie goodness.
  2. Bake the Bundt: Pour the prepared batter into a well-greased bundt pan. Bake according to the time and temperature specified on your cake mix box. Bundt cakes often require a slightly longer baking time than standard layer cakes, so ensure it’s fully cooked through.
  3. Cool Completely: Once baked, remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the bundt pan for about 30 minutes. This crucial step helps the cake firm up before you invert it onto a wire rack. Allow it to cool completely on the wire rack before proceeding to decorate.
  4. Prepare the Frosting: To achieve that perfect pourable consistency for decorating, place your can of white frosting in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat it in the microwave for 20-30 seconds, just until the sides of the icing begin to melt and soften. Stir the icing well until it’s smooth and pourable, but not too runny. If it becomes too thin, simply let it cool for a few minutes to thicken slightly.
  5. Frost the Cake: Carefully pour the melted icing over the top of your completely cooled bundt cake. Gently spread it with a spoon or spatula to ensure good coverage, letting the excess icing elegantly drip down the sides for that beautiful, rustic look.
  6. Add Oreo Topping: Before the poured icing has a chance to cool and set completely, liberally sprinkle the 1 cup of crushed Oreo cookies on top of the iced cake. The slightly wet icing will act as a perfect adhesive for the crushed cookies. Allow the icing to set fully before slicing and serving your magnificent creation.
